5Party headphonesMar 15, 2011
By MKretz
I got these headphones for my trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. The color is awesome and they are what I like to call "party" headphones because you can easily wear them around your next and share your tunes with anyone around you. The volume output is great without compromising the sound quality. The padding on the top makes for a different feel than most over the ear headphones and they don't completely cover the ear but where they lack in these qualities they make up for in design, transportability and affordability. I would recommend these to anyone who is looking for a cheaper set of headphones and don't like the in the ear ones. Plus skull candy is just an awesome brand.

4Great price for what you get!Oct 12, 2009
By Ace Thomas
I ordered these mainly because I'm very bad at keeping up with little ear buds, I usually loose them in a week or so after purchase. The sound quality is great for the music I listen to, generally this is New Age, Acoustica, and Folk music. The plastic rim at the top that bends for portability is very flimsy and I feel like I'm going to break it, and after prolonged use of the product, 2+ hours or so, my ears start to hurt from wearing them. Although seeing as I don't usually use my headphones for longer than that seems to not be much of a problem, but I thought it would be for people who like to relax in front of a computer with headphones for long periods of time.

Regards.

5Perfect for non-bud peopleDec 29, 2011
By K. Taylor
I used to try and wear ear buds, but no matter what size I tried to use, they all ended up failing in some way or another. Either they would just fall out or a slight tug would bring them out. I decided, hey, let's get some over the ear ones. I was pretty sketchy because I just thought they were too bulky, but I love them. They're not like DJ headphones and the padding on the ears and top of the headband make them quite comfortable to wear. The sound quality is great, and even the microphone works great in my HTC Evo 4G.

I would recommend these to anyone who has an issue with ear buds. I'm a web developer and these headphones are perfect for me while working away.

3Owned 5 pairs since 2/2008...cheap, but will not last!Apr 22, 2011
By Muffin McFurry
I first got a pair of Skullcandy Lowrider's in February 2008, and paid $30 at the time (many places had them for $40). I have a separate pair of headphones for my computer at work, and bought these primarily for the gym (2-3 times a week, 2 hours each time) and for snowboarding (all-day). I first saw these in a snowboarding catalog and figured that they would be durable enough for my needs.

SOUND:
The sound is sub-par compared to other headphones that you can buy in the $30-$40 range. I mostly listen to trance and hip-hop, and there is absolutely no bass in these headphones. Even with my iPod set on "Bass Booster", the bass still sounds extremely flat, and one can hear a crackling noise. Even with my volume set on maximum, the sound being pumped out is not really that loud considering it's at maximum volume.

PORTABILITY AND FIT:
An advantage of having these headphones is that they fold up nicely. You can stick them in a jacket pocket, a purse, etc. and they don't take much room. The cord that it comes with is a perfect size at 3 feet, which is great for those using it during activities. As for the fit, I have a rather large head, and the Lowriders are extremely loose! It feels like the screw on top (where the headphone folds) needs to be tightened. When using certain machines at the gym like the stomach machines, these easily move off my head or fall off. When snowboarding, I've had to put my goggle strap over these headphones just to make them stay on my head. The physical headphone itself is very light, but it feels like cheap plastic, and the padding on the ears does start to get irritating after a few hours of wear.

BUILD QUALITY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE:
As mentioned, I have gone through 5 of these. Each time, the connection in the headphone wiring has shorted out, resulting in one headphone going in/out and finally dying. Each pair has lasted on average 6 months or less. This problem is not unique to the Lowriders since it has also happened to a few people I know who owned the Skullcandy Smokin' Buds. The one saving grace to the crappy build quality is the excellent customer service at Skullcandy. Each time my Lowriders have crapped out on me, they have sent me a new pair, which is why I have gone through 5 of these. Even though the replacement was free, I spent $10 each time shipping the broken headphones back, not to mention it took about 2-4 weeks to get a replacement each time.

OVERALL VALUE:
If it were not for Skullcandy's lifetime warranty, I would have given this product a 1-star for having such bad quality. The fact that Skullcandy has great customer service and good replacement policy is the reason why I give the overall value 3 stars. For the price, the product is worth it if you want a cool headphone, don't mind it lasting short-term, and if you don't mind waiting to get replacement headphones.
However, if sound quality, fit, and build quality matter to you, I would suggest looking at other brands within this price range. I have gone through many hi-fi forums researching what headphones to get next, and many suggest headphones like the Koss PortaPros.

I decided to invest in some good headphones and spent the money on V-Moda Crossfades. I'll post a review once I've had a chance to properly assess it.

5SweetSep 23, 2009
By Alison L. Scott "Dark Sage"
Nothin' but love for the Skullcandy Lowriders; I've had only one other pair before them and they were lowriders too. They lasted me a good two years before giving up the ghost and sending me off to get another pair. This pair that I bought are just as good as the last and they look so cool. I tell people about them, the booming sounds quality, the comfort, and the collapsable goodness. I hope this pair lasts just as long as the last.
