Scapa F3 AT setupJun 14, 2011
By Bruno I rigged a proto of the F3 on K2 Hardsides in a 181 (I'm 5'10" and 175lbs) via ancient Silvretta 404's and have been extremely pleased with the setup. I skied the front side all season with regular excursions into the trees and under the rope and found the setup a confidence builder in all conditions, without exception. The boots flex along with the ski in compression, which takes getting used to, but translates into better feel for the snow. After getting used to the wider ski underfoot, I found the K2's can hold an edge easily on hardpack for wide radius GS turns, and then bust into trees for tight cranks in soft and deep pow. Bonus: The skins K2 is selling pre-cut for the ski feature new hardware that make them a breeze to get on and off. They did exactly what they were supposed to on the one hut trip I took to Janet's in the 10th Mountain circuit. Even after a long day you are sorry to take the boots off. This is as close to a single-setup quiver as I've been able to get so far. My advice: go with the longer length skis; the boots have the balls to drive them and the setup loves to maneuver, even with a heavy pack.
