A warm and slimming fleece for once!!!Nov 18, 2010
By Matthew Thacker This is my wife's review of her new Retro-X Fleece:
I have always been a North Face user so when it was time to get a new everyday fleece for the fall, winter, spring, I went to my local Blue Ridge Mnt Sports to try on the new NFs. However, after trying on all the NF options in the store, I wasn't impressed with the lack of a feminine cut. It seems as though women's NFs are simply a smaller version of the men's NF. I was unhappy with the shapeless look of all the heavier NF fleeces so I made my way around the store trying on other brands. One after the other seemed to be made with the same concept in mind: create a straight line from the armpit to the hip and add an elastic drawstring at the bottom for cinching. I was so disappointed and had resigned myself to one of the lighter weight fleeces that do have a feminine line. That is, until I tried on this Patagonia fleece. OH MY GOODNESS! The Patagonia Retro-X is so flattering! You can really tell they made it with a woman's figure in mind. I love that it actually has a feminine cut so my curves are shown off instead of hidden. I had a hard time leaving the store without it but I figured I could get a better deal online, which I did.
Like I said before, this is more of an everyday fleece rather than a technical/adventure fleece. It fits close so layering wouldn't work too well. I can wear a short sleeve with a long sleeve tee or light sweater under it but nothing much more. It is incredibly warm and comfortable. However, it is more structured than the normal fleece because it has the thick fabric on the undersides of the arms and down the sides of the jacket. I love this as I think it makes the jacket fit better and hold it's shape but I can see how some wouldn't like the "stiff" feeling.
I am a small woman (5`2" and 128lbs) and wear a small in almost everything. The Women's Small fits me perfectly whereas in NF I usually had to buy either Women's XS or a Girls L. The jacket hits right at my hips, sleeves hit right at the top of my thumb joints (if pulled down straight), and zips up nicely with just enough space for mobility. I can see how if you had a long waist or long arms, it might be a bit short but for us petite women who want something warm and fitted, this is the jacket to get! The collar stands up on its own, as the outside of the collar uses the same thick fabric as the sides and underarms. This gives my neck and face awesome wind/cold protection and also keeps my hair from getting caught in the back of the jacket. The inside has the same thick fabric as well as fleece. However, the fleece has a thin mesh stitched over it. I love the mesh because it keeps my clothes from getting stuck to the fleece. Now when I'm putting on this jacket, I don't have to hold my sleeves in my hands or pull my shirt sides around to straighten them out. Just throw it on and go. The color is right on too.
I love it and can say with all honest that Patagonia has won this North Face lover over with the Retro-X. Keep up the great work!

warm jacketMar 23, 2011
By Jeannie Ethel Gordon I read many reviews before settling on this jacket. I was a little nervous about buying a coat over the internet as the sizing is always different. I am 5-3 130lbs but I do have a larger chest. This is a bit tight for me up top and rides up on the bottom. This jacket is quite narrow all around. I almost wish I had bought the men's one. It is a bit stiff which the other reviews also said so I'm just hoping it breaks in soon. It is very warm and nicely windproof.

By Alice up north Gift for my daughter....she seems to love it and the fit. How can you go wrong with a Patagonia product.
Just what I expected - perhaps the perfect fleece jacketNov 03, 2011
By Kathryn Hershberger I was looking for a fleece that was a little more tailored than the fleece I had been wearing for the last ten years. The Retro-X fits perfectly. The jacket rests right around my hip bones, and the sleeves hit mid hand. The quality of construction is also top notch. I hope this fleece will last me ten years if not more, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something warm, well made, and stylish.
Favorite JacketMar 23, 2011
By Lois J. Olson Previously, I had purchased a Retro-x vest, so I knew the jacket would be windproof and warm. It's designed to allow freedom of movement, especially the arms, which I like. Recently I got caught out in the rain in it and the water beaded up on the pile. Eventually it would have gotten wet, but the water resistance is good also. I bought the jacket in Goji Berry which is my favorite color.
