The Rain Shadow embodies this approach perfectly. The 2.5-layer tear-resistant nylon has been built with a waterproof/breathable H2No barrier that will keep you so dry it’s freaky. But the Rain Shadow (particularly the blue model) also offers a distinct, throw-back styling that instills the same type of nostalgic warmth found in libraries, vinyl record shops and the unremembered 80’s. Lightweight, 2.5-layer tear-resistant nylon has a waterproof/breathable H2No barrier and Deluge DWR (durable water repellent) finish wet weather protection Highly engineered interior surface texture channels moisture away from skin, protects the waterproof barrier from abrasion and slides easily over layers Microfleece-lined neck and chin for comfort All exterior zippersare watertighre watertight | | | Features: | |

Excellent rain jacketApr 16, 2011

"Unrepentant Rogue"
I've had this jacket for five years, and it performs. I've worn it biking in the Aran Islands during an all day rain, and it kept me dry, although it didn't keep me from getting sea sick on the ferry. I've worn it in downtown Budapest when it was pouring down, and it kept me dry, but it didn't improve my Hungarian language skills. I've worn it walking around the Red Light District in Amsterdam during a rainy November, and it kept me dry, even if it didn't get me a discount on the services they offer.
There's enough room for layering inside it, and I typically wear a hoodie and a hat under the jacket to stay warm and dry during travel. It packs up really nice, into an amazingly small package, and has pockets that have always been large enough for whatever I put in them, and conveniently placed. Mine also has a small security pocket inside. There are a bunch of small details that really make this jacket: the pocket size and placement, the hood is a little extra large with a visor, the back is a little extra long for that essential rear coverage, and the zippers tend to work just right. It's a great rain jacket, and it looks good; possibly it looks better on me than on you, but that's to be expected.
If you're looking for a quality rain jacket, this is it. I have some Patagonia gear that I've owned for over 20 years, and it still works as good as the day I got it. Expect the same from this jacket.

Good jacket overallOct 26, 2010
By Gaetan Paultre I've had this jacket for a bit now, and it's been good so far. It works as advertised, and I've had to use it a few times, and so far so good. I've had to wash it once, and I did notice that that one wash in the washing machine wore out the fabric a bit. It's still good though, and serves it's purpose well.
As for style, it's a a very nice jacket... for rain. It's a bit swooshy, and the fits a bit bigger then I like(it is a rain jacket after all), but it is still wearable in public.
Note: I live in Florida, so I haven't tested it in the snow, so I wouldn't know how it would hold up, if someone would even use this for snow.

Shelter from the Storm...Oct 19, 2010
By D. S. Thurlow The Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket is first rate protection from the elements. This jacket is waterproof, windproof, and rugged enough for use in the outback, wherever yours is. The seams are flat and taped. The Jacket has a full length front zipper, two side pockets, and two underarm vent zippers. The hood can be clinched up to chin level. This reviewer has used it under three season cool-wet conditions in Alaska; it might be too heavy for use in warm-wet conditions. The fit is room enough for an insulating layer underneath, if desired. The jackets folds up nicely for storage in a rucksack or pack.
The Rain Shadow Jacket is highly recommended to fans of quality Patagonia gear.
