3Good Boards and Terrible BindingsJan 19, 2012
By Andrew
Took these out for the first time last night. The conditions were a mix of groomed hardpack, ice and some powder that was as deep as 12" in some areas. To be objective I'm dividing the review between the boards and the bindings.

Boards:
They wer super easy to ski on and could make super tight turns. Skidding stops were easy and cool. They seemed stable at speed but I didn't get to test that out as much as I would have liked. They handled the ice and powder well--I just had to lean to the backside to not faceplant in the powder.

Bindings:
I hate these bindings and will never go out without releasable bindings again. To be fair, part of this is the bindings themselves and part of it is my personal problems. I'm in my 30's and fairly fit but I broke my back 6 years ago and can just barely touch my toes. Also due to my back I was unable to stand up with the boards attached to my feet. To get the boards on you have to get the front and back of the bindings in the right spot and move a plastic lock into place to hold them there. The plastic lock seemed to want to go wrong under the best of circumstances and out on the slopes with snow and ice jamming everything up getting it seated was almost impossible. Then you get your heel under the back bale and bend over and snap the toe lock on. Ultimately if I fell on the slopes I had to walk down the rest of the run because I couldn't stand back up with both boards on and I couldn't get my boot back onto the binding after taking the board off. This made for a very frustrating night.

Conclussion:
If you are on a budget and can deal with the binding issues I mentioned (if you can stand right back up after falling for instance) then these will provide a lot of fun. Personally I'm going to have to sell these and save more money and get a quality board with release bindings such as the Summit Freedoms or Nomads.
