5From the slopesJan 15, 2011

I got the gloves for my son-in-law for Christmas: Here's part of his thank you note: I've just skied two days with those gloves, and they are an absolute dream! They have long gauntlets to stop snow from getting between my jacket sleeve and the gloves. They kept my hands warm and dry all day long. If they do get wet inside, their liners come out for quick and easy air drying. You can even handwash the liners if they start to get a bit funky. They have a little leash which goes to a wrist strap. That way, if you need to take your gloves off while on a chairlift, they'll just hang by that leash from your wrist. You don't have to worry about dropping them. Anyway, I've just loved wearing them the last couple of days, and I probably would not have spoiled myself with them. It's amazing the difference a really good pair of gloves makes. Thank you so much!

2Quality Gloves Not for Cold WeatherApr 23, 2012

I used the gloves for over two years (about 30 days of skiing with the gloves in different weather conditions). Those gloves are made from high quality materials and come with nice rubber bands so you won't lose them when you take them off, however they don't have pockets for hands warmers. If you ski bellow 30F and your hands are sensitive to cold weather, stay away from those gloves; I tried to add liners and warmers it did not work with those gloves.

2Well Made but Not WarmJan 24, 2012

These are the coldest gloves I have owned. My fingers were freezing. The fit was fine, they just are not that warm. Great gloves for temperatures above 30 degrees.

2pool workmanshipJan 08, 2012

I like this glove, but somehow the workmanship is not good, some of the stitches is showing when I got it, after two use the stitches near the thumb just broke so I have to return it. I saw the same glove at retail store the construction seems better quality, don't know why the difference.

3Great construction, but a bit much... make sure you size up!Jan 04, 2012

My previous glove was a 9.5, and it was actually quite roomy, so really my hand is closer to 9, probably more like 9.25, but that obviously doesn't exist. I figured sizing up to a 10 would be good. But the Heli was a little bit too tight. Actually, according to Hestra's fit guide, it was the right size, as I could still grasp a little bit of empty space at the tips of my fingers. But if felt a little restrictive. On the first day using them, it was 32 in the morning and warmed up to 40-ish. My finger tips were cold in the first time of my life of normal skiing. It's not like I was out skiing in deep snow for long hours, etc. Straight onto the lift and I noticed cold finger tips. Oh, and the night before, I had applied their leather polish quite very thoroughly.

I attributed this to the slightly tight fit, and vowed to return them. I have since done so and ordered the Hestra Gortex XCR in size 11. Hopefully, it will do the trick.

I will say this, the build quality was awesome. The wrist leash is very cool. The insert on this glove was the most natural fitting insulated insert I've used. But I wasn't terribly impressed with the quality of the insulation on this glove. I realize mine was a little tight and you should have more room, I've worn snug fitting gloves before and I've never had chilled finger tips unless I was in a blizzard all day! So I'll subtract a star for what I consider a poor quality insulation, and subtract another star for the price. This may be a Swedish glove company, but they make their gloves in China. There is no excuse for such a high price and a cheaper quality insulation in the insert. (Leather and exterior is nice).

If you get them nice and roomy, and don't go too extreme cold, I'm sure it's a great, but pricey glove. I'm hoping the XCR will be even better, but boy do they make you pay for it! Oh, and FYI for anyone reading this. Some people say to warm the glove up before applying the wax polish. I read elsewhere that Hestra says specifically not to do this (I didn't).
