It even earned the 2006 Couloir Design Innovations Award. The Deploy 7 Shovel's curved shaft collapses into the blade for a small package that fits easily into your touring pack, and it extends to lock into place with a quick pull. The shaft's trapezoidal shape ensures it doesn't rotate and come apart from the blade at the worst time. No more digging thorough your pack for separate pieces or dealing with frozen, over-complicated attachments.

Excellent ShovelMar 15, 2012
By A. Medley In my opinion, this is the best avy shovel you can buy. Easily stowable, deploys quickly, tough, sturdy construction, and a large pan moves lots of snow easily... This stows perfectly in my backpack when I take the snowmobile into the back country. FYI, The Deploy 7 has a slightly larger pan than most avy shovels. If you have a small backpack, or don't want or need one this big, consider the "Deploy 3". I purchased a "Deploy 3" for use while skiing. They are both great!!!!

Although I have not had to dig anyone out of avalanche debree yet, it has worked very well for general digging and training exercises. It moves tons of snow. It is a bit on the large side so your pack may not accomodate it.
Light & Small Peace of MindDec 22, 2010
By John E. Brennan Wanted something to move snow, just in case. The BD Deploy fits in my daypack and is amazing light and compact. The handle deploys and locks by engaging two spring buttons that engage in holes in the shovel neck. I've not put it to hard use, but I'm glad to know it's there. I carry it when snowshoeing on Mt. Hood, Oregon. It's also nice to know I have something around the house in Portland, Oregon, where it snows sometimes, but not enough to warrant anything for regularly moving snow. I look forward to my first snow cave with this shovel.
