Best Jacket EverJan 07, 2012
By im22sniper I rarely write reviews but I had to give Arcteryx credit for such a great jacket. I did not purchase it from Amazon because my local outdoors store was having a sale and wanted to give them my money. Im planning a hike in April in NC and needed a light jacket that was warm and compressible. I never would have bought a jacket this expensive but when I tried it on, it was extremely light and the softest most comfortable jacket I have ever tried. It is hard to believe that a jacket as light as this can keep you as warm as it does. I wore it to NY recently when it was in the 30's and windy. I only had a lightweight shirt on under it and was very warm. I am from Florida so I dont deal with cold very well. The secret to its warmth is the loft that traps air. If you pat the jacket you can tell it traps a very small amount air inside it. Just an ever so slight amount of loft. Not big and puffy like down jackets but just enough to do the job. If you are worried about the stretchy fabric that runs down the sides of the jacket not being warm...dont, it keeps the jacket from being sloppy and allows it to stretch if needed. Im 6'2 250lbs and I have the xxl size...its perfect. If I was 220lbs again I could have bought the Xl possibly. Dont be scared, it is a wonderful jacket and I promise you will not be disappointed. Arcteryx is expensive gear but I feel this jacket is definitely worth it. Just do it, youll make more money next week.

My teen loves this jacket!Nov 23, 2011
By timpani My teen loves this jacket. He wanted a less bulky jacket for fall/early winter and waiting for the school bus. I had already bought myself a comparable jacket, which was wonderfully designed and very warm and versatile, so I told him I would order him one. For the money, it appeared to be the best choice, compared to cheaper and less well-designed jackets/underliners. It's warm, has a hood, keeps off the wind, is water-resistant and is very thin and easy to pack in a pocket or schoolbag. It's also washable.
Awesome JacketFeb 15, 2012
By Mr. Knowledge I'm a recent convert to Arcteryx jackets. I love Northface jackets but have recently found the Arcteryx jackets to be less bulky, warmer, and better designed. I used the atom jacket skiing recently and the jacket was so warm I did not need an outer layer. The jacket vents heat well through the fabric under your arms and has a great fit with great pockets (top part of the hand pockets are insulated and nice and soft). It has a hood that is helmet compatible and warm. You can tell a big difference in temperature of your head as soon as you flip the hood back. This is one sweet jacket. The colors are interesting and I did not know whether I would like the "squid ink" purple color, but now I like it. I'm highly visible on the slopes in this jacket. It helped my girl friend find me quickly as I was screaming down the hill, among all the black ordinary jackets. In the event you are in really cold or wet conditions you will want to use this jacket as a midlayer and put on a totally waterproof shell. But in most situation this jacket sheds light snow and light rain with no problem and keeps you warm with no cold spots and dry. I took a pretty good fall in a particularly thin section on the slope, and slid over some dirt, small rocks, ice, and rough snow. The jacket sustained no damage, so it is tough too. I'm completely converted to this brand now! It is extremely compactable and takes up very little space in a pack. Price is step but totally worth it. If you shop around you can find it on sale for $200 or less.
