One of these best purchases I have madeApr 06, 2010
By Matthew I. Kent I am not the typical Arc'teryx buyer. I am not an extreme outdoors-man, running off to climb a glacier before breakfast. Nor, am I a rich guy, who likes to wear extreme sport equipment. My decision to buy this was for its versatility and durability. The Alpha SL, has no insulation factor, so despite its looks do not expect it to keep you warm. However that is why this jacket is so fantastic. Worn over a cycling jersey, you can wear this jacket during a warm torrential downpour and not feel a bit humid or stuffy, nor will you be wet. You can also layer this with a smart wool henley and ski with better comfort, than I ever have using specialized ski jackets. For truly frigid environments, there is enough room under this jacket to layer a polar fleece jacket and its clever elbows and shoulders will not hinder your movement. Basically this is the ultimate rain jacket, the longer I own it, the more situations I have found it to be perfect in. While this is not listed as the topline gore-tex, I have yet to be a rain storm that it didn't repel with ease. This jacket crushes up so small, I take it with me everywhere I travel and that is why I bought this. I have tried and own lesser jackets, but nothing has compared to the versatility of this jacket.
